Judges Critique – Joanna Phillips (Bullyon)
It was such an honour and a privilege to be invited to judge The Regent Trophy and a pleasure to have Tracey Fletcher as my co judge. I would like to thank the Bull Terrier Club committee and all the exhibitors for a very special day.
We were in complete agreement with our Winner and BOS but had to call the referee for Runner Up.
Our winner was Abgar The Jaunty Jazz. A really beautiful but powerful brindle and white bitch “out of the top drawer”. She has a superb head with excellent fill and profile. Strong underjaw with good mouth. Well placed ears and good expression. Such a lovely reach of neck with a beautiful forechest. Good lay of shoulder, straight front with cat feet. Shapely body with good hind angulation. She moved fairly parallel and drove from behind. The best bitch mover in this Trophy. She could be a bit shorter in the back but all her virtues far outweighed this. Her condition and presentation was immaculate and she never put a foot wrong even though this was her 3rd Trophy of the day.
Runner Up and BOS was Ch Buster Hill Bilboen. Ultra typy white stallion of a dog. Outstanding head with sweeping profile and completely filled up. Wicked expression and good mouth. Good neck into straight front with neat feet. Shapely body with good bone and substance. Superb mover. Moved parallel and drove with incredible power from behind like a steam train, really covering the ground. Not the best of showmen and made his handler work really hard. Preferred the condition and presentation of Jaunty Jazz.
My co judge’s choice for Runner Up was Ch Vetsbullies Made In Heaven. A very pretty terrier type white bitch. Very well made, with lovely cat feet. She had a good head with turn and good mouth but I would have preferred more strength in it. Her condition and presentation was immaculate. I preferred the head, power and movement of Buster Hill and so we called the referee Mr Bill Lambert who chose Buster Hill as Runner Up.
I would also like to mention Ch Trulee Scrumptious of Villensia. She is indeed Trulee Scrumptious, a stonking bitch with the WOW factor. A real powerhouse with ultra type. Outstanding head powerpacked with a sweeping turn. Her front feet are untidy and turn out slightly and I preferred the condition, presentation and movement of Jaunty Jazz but she is a superb bitch and ran her close.
We put Ch Buster Hill Bilboen and Ch Gorbain Hell To Pay Barnesmore through to The Charlie Girl Cup. We didn’t put Jaunty Jazz through to The Charlie Girl Cup because although she was the best bitch mover in The Regent Trophy, she didn’t have the powerful drive of the 2 boys.
Winner of the Charlie Girl Cup for Movement: Ch Buster Hill Bilboen
My co judge and I then judged The Charlie Girl Cup for best mover in The Trophies and were in complete agreement. The winner was Ch Buster Hill Bilboen. A superb mover, moved parallel, really covered the ground and drove with great power from behind like a steam train.
Others that ran him close were Ch Hell To Pay Barnesmore and Ch Bilboen Renaissance, both super movers, they both moved parallel, covered the ground and drove from behind but not quite as much drive as Buster Hill.

Judges Critique – Tracey Fletcher (Napier)
It was a great pleasure today, at the pinnacle of my judging career, to work with my co-judge, Joanna Phillips. I would like to thank all involved in the organising hard work and dedication to bring the Bull Terrier Clubs Trophy weekend to fruition. As show manager, I’m under no illusion of the effort, hard work and commitment that the committee and their families put forth. Thank you all! To my ring stewards Mark Philips & Tyrone Probert, Thank you! Also, for helping to organise competitors throughout the day: Dave Westwood, Sean Morris, Shaun Mathison & Tony Williams, you did a sterling job. To all exhibitors competing in The Regent Trophy, thank you for your patience and the wonderful presentation of your Bull Terriers. It is a long weekend and you presented them in top condition.
Newberry & Bartkowiak. ABGAR THE JAUNTY JAZZ. A brindle & white 3-year-old female. She took your eye straight away on entering the ring. Beautifully marked, her head is wide, completely packed with a sweeping profile. She has nice dark eyes that never left her handler. Lovely expression, neatly positioned ears that never stopped working, a perfect mouth, and a good under jaw. Her neck, which is strong with good length, flows down into a good lay of the shoulder. Good fore chest, straight front, and elbows tucked nicely in. Feet that are cat-like face forward. She has lovely, smooth-flowing body lines, a short back, and everything in place with good conformation. Her tail set is correct. Good length of back leg, nice bend of stifle, you could see her second thigh. Her movement was very good. Going and coming back. She covered the ground well, and she stood four square when stopped. Her temperament was happy and content. She was completely focused on her handler; they were in tune with each other and were symbiotic. She was presented in perfect condition, and her weight on the day was spot on. This girl deserved top honours, and today she won The Regent Trophy.
Fosters. Ch.BUSTER HILL BILBOEN A white male, 20 months old, my first impression of this dog, as he enters the ring, is his expression. His eyes, his powerful and egg-shaped head, which is full, compact, and with a correct mouth. His ears are well placed, and he used them continuously. Good, strong neck leading into correct shoulder placement. Straight front with good round bone, and elbows that are tucked in. His back is short with good spring of rib and carries the correct weight. With his good angulation, this dog’s movement was excellent, both front and back, and he drove with purpose. We awarded this dog Runner-up to The Regent Trophy, Best of Opposite Sex to The Regent Trophy Winner, and Winner of The Charlie Girl Cup.
Octavian Galla. Ch.VETSBULLY MADE IN HEAVEN. A bitch in strong contention who pushed very hard for honours on the day. This white bitch is 18 months old and worked extremely well with her handler. She pushed hard in The Regent Trophy and never put a foot out of place. Shown in excellent condition, she was the perfect picture of a Bull Terrier. A credit to her breeders and owners!
Judge: Tracey Fletcher
Referee: Bill Lambert (Caliber)
I was called in to referee between the dog and the bitch for Coverwood Casket as runner up in the Regent Trophy. I felt the quality of the animals present in this competition was particularly high this year and I offer my congratulations to all the competitors.
The two animals put forward for consideration were.
Ch Vetsbullies Made in Heaven. A beautifull compact typy white bitch, full of quality, wonderfully feminine and yet retains type She has a well filled head, her front is ramrod straight, with well tucked in elbows and small tight feet. She has a good neck with a lovey short back. Her body is compact well rounded; she was in beautiful condition, with a gleaming white coat. Her quarters are well muscled and angulated and she moved in one piece. A top-quality bitch.
And
Ch Buster Hill Bilboen. A masculine white dog of excellent make and shape A true heavyweight with lovely round bone filled up and a power packed head. Very typy with a short back, excellent front with very strong round bone, and well tucked in elbows, nice tight feet. His neck is exceptional, long strong and muscular, exactly what is called for, his back is short and he has excellent well angulated quarters. His crowning glory is his movement; rarely do you see a heavyweight dog of this type cover the ground so well, driving truly from behind and completely parallel. It was this, that for me, sealed the deal and I was delighted to award him the prize. It was no shock to see him later win the Charlie Girl Cup for movement.
Congratulations to the owner’s breeders and handlers concerned for presenting two fine animals.

Judges Critique – Pam Rawlings (Mapalee)
I would like to thank The Hon. Officers and Committee for giving me the opportunity to judge this Prestigious Trophy. Both John and I were overwhelmed by the welcome we received on the day.
It was a delight to Judge with my Co – Judge David Jones who I have not seen for many years.
All dogs were presented in good condition, handled well and all temperaments were excellent.
After going over and moving all the exhibits in turn, we were in complete agreement on our Winner Youngs Champion Bullyhinks Fury, a good sized upstanding white dog with exceptional ring presence and stature. He has a well filled head with turn and finish, deep muzzle, small dark eye and neat correctly placed ears, completing that vitally unique expression. He has a long strong neck into correct shoulder, deep chest, straight front, tidy feet, great spring of rib, a short back into correct tail set which is short and whip like. He has a well muscled first and second thigh, giving correct angulation. He moved with drive and power when he settled, overall an outstanding dog that oozes type, quality and substance without a hint of coarseness.
My choice for Runner Up was Jowers Clansmann Air of Menace, a dark brindle of good size and substance, he has a strong deep well filled head with turn and finish, correct eye and ear placement, a good length of neck into correct shoulder, deep chest, straight front with tight feet. Good spring of rib, correct top line and tail set, good rear angulation which showed in his movement and drive and we both agreed he should go forward to the Charlie Girl Cup.
My Co- Judges preference for Runner Up was Fosters Champion Buster Hill Bilboen and after some amicable discussion about our two preferences we decided to seek the opinion of the Referee whose choice was Champion Buster Hill Bilboen for the Runner Up Spot. He along with the winner and Air of Menace were the ones chosen by David and I to go forward for the Charlie Girl Cup.

I would like to thank the Bull Terrier Club committee for inviting me to judge this prestigious event. Along side my lovely co judge the well respected miss Pam Rawlings.
Myself and my co judge were in complete agreement with our winner. Ch Bullyhinks Fury. J&M Young. White male showing outstanding qualities. He stands with power and presence owning his space in the ring. Lovely head filled with profile. Wicked eye dark and well set. Straight front correct top line and good bend of stifle. Plenty bone and all in proportion. He moved well both ways when settled. Strong dog handled to perfection. I liked this dog as a youngster with a previous owner awarding him res cc at the Bull T Club CH Show. Very happy to see he has matured on and very worthy winner today.
Res was Ch Buster Hill Bilboen .S Foster. Strong headed male with a leg on each corner. Deep chest Into a short coby body and strong hind quarters. Very correct dog with bone and substance. This boy can move very well both ways with drive. We were very happy put him through for the movement Trophy.
Judge: David Jones
Referee: David Westwood (Tulsadoom)
I was called in as Referee the Reserve for the Ormandy Dog Jug.
My choice between the two was Ch Buster Hill Bilboen. Very eye-catching dog who shows himself beautifully. His head is powerful with width and tremendous profile. Square front, short level topline into excellent rear quarters. When he hits his stride with drive he looks a picture. Kept his handler working hard.
Clansmann Air of Menace – a brindle and white boy with a powerful, packed and filled head with correct mouth and keen expression. Powerful forequarters, straight front and excellent lay of shoulder into level topline. Felt he was a bit loose and didn’t show all his attributes on the day.

Runner Up for The Ormandy Jug for Bitches: Ch Serenbull Soul Aurora
Judges Critique – Theresa Spurr (Beantown)
Thank you to the Bull Terrier Club for inviting me to fill the judging gap in the 2025 Ormandy Jug for Bitches competition. I was honored to be asked to judge such a prestigious event. My co-judge and I have a history over the years. David and Teresa Westwood’s breeding stock, via James and Kay Davis of D Bar, is behind our successful dogs, and for that I am very grateful. James and Kay were spectators at the Trophy Weekend for many, many years, and I feel blessed that I got to enjoy their company at the Trophies a few times. I definitely felt the presence of James over my shoulder during this event!
This class of bitches was outstanding, and the selectors should be proud of their product. Every animal in this year’s competition was worthy of being there and any one of them could have been left standing in the end. Thank you to the exhibitors for bringing the best of the best, and for allowing me to judge their ladies even though my assignment was announced last minute. That was very kind.
Today’s winner, CH Villensia’s Trulee Scrumptious of Villensia, caught my eye early on – she’s a substantial white brood bitch with the most head power in the class. Her curving body lines move from one part to the next with no abrupt stops. Her head has a profile that is not overdone and it’s completely filled up. Very strong underjaw. Correct bite. She has a sunken eye and her ears are placed properly right on top of her head adding to her keen expression. She has a long, arching neck, and plenty of forechest. Her shoulder is well laid back, and she has enough length of upper arm so that she reaches out well when on the move. Her topline has a small arch over her loin and her tail is set on correctly. She has a well-muscled and angulated rear, and her hock is in proportion to her size. She moves a little closely going away, and her topline is pretty solid while moving. In spite of her size, she still holds breed type – I’d recognize her as a bull terrier from 100 yards out! Her superior head strength, femininity even though she’s a large package, and overall balance is why I believed she was the clear winner on the day.
Runner Up Kellys’ and Nisbet’s CH Serenbull Soul Aurora, is a compact, ultra feminine bitch completely different from the winner. She has a pleasing, but not overdone profile. Her shoulder has enough lay back, and her front is straight. Her virtue is her movement, and her topline holds while moving. She is in fabulous condition and was very well-handled. She definitely pushed the winner, but ultimately the winner’s head strength and overall balance won out.
I’d also like to mention Newberry and Bartkowiak’s Abgar the Jaunty Jazz, as she rounded out our cut of three. This brilliant brindle girl has a stunning head, correct bite, and very pretty bodylines. I particularly liked her long arching neck and unbroken top line. She also has a well-angulated rear. Her coat is stunning, and she looks like a professional in the show ring. I was very pleased that she was recognized at the end of the day!

Firstly, I would like to thank The Bull Terrier Club for the great honor of being asked to judge The Ormandy Jug for Bitches trophy at this prestigious event. It was also made more special by judging with Theresa Spurr with whom I shared a very close friendship to someone who is no longer with us. I am sure James Davis would have loved to have been there. Finally, I would like to congratulate all breeders and exhibitors for presenting their bitches in such good condition.
Winner – Ch Truly Scrumptious of Villensia
Caught my eye straight away. Powerful white bitch, her head is packed and filled, keen eye and mouth correct. She has a beautiful reach of neck into a level topline. She is not over long for a bitch of this size. When stood, she has a square front with tremendous bone and substance. A good spring of rib and powerful hind quarters that allows the movement to flow. It is a real pleasure to watch when she moves up and down the mat. For a girl of this size she still retains balance and ultimate femininity – a superb bitch.
Runner-Up – Ch Serenbull Soul Aurora
A white bitch of different type to the winner who is on the smaller side but if you stop and look, she is a picture of quality. She has a square front with plenty of fore chest. Clean shoulders and excellent lay of neck. Her head is short and packed with a beautiful profile and correct mouth. Short backed with a level topline which holds on the move. Well let down rear which enables drive when she moves. Presented in excellent condition and handled well to bring it all together.
Another bitch that was right up there for consideration was Abgar the Jaunty Jazz. Brindle and White of tremendous quality that pushed the winner and runner up all the way.

Many thanks to the Bull Terrier Club for inviting me to judge the Sandawana Trophy for Best Coloured Dog or Bitch of 2025.
I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment made extra special judging with Melanie Whitehair and we were in complete agreement with all our decisions.

To me, the Bull Terrier Club Trophy Weekend is the Christmas of Bull Terrier dog shows! With all the planning, travel, excitement, and joy of reconnecting with great friends we may only see once a year, it’s a truly special experience.
The Committee’s dedication to honoring and preserving our breed shines through in every detail. Year after year, it never gets old.
My co-judge, Mrs. Maureen Hughes, was a pleasure to work with. We were in complete agreement throughout the morning.
I was not aware until after our judging that our Winner and Best of Opposite Sex were littermates. Congratulations to their breeders, owners, and handlers for the results of their years of hard work.
My heartfelt thanks to the Committee and to everyone involved for trusting me with this assignment.
WINNER
Mr. O’Reilly’s RAGNAROK LAGERTHA Breeders: Mr. M & Mrs. A Taylor.
(Bilboen Quantum of Solace x Ragnarok Boadicea)
A beautifully presented brindle and white bitch. In the initial excitement of entering the ring, I thought her topline may be a concern. As the ring energy settled and everyone got to work, this young girl just kept getting better and better.
Overall, she is powerful yet feminine. Her head is exactly to the Standard; it is long, strong, and deep right to the end of the muzzle, but not coarse. Gentle unbroken curve and a deep, strong under jaw. Dentition is correct. Excellent expression with small, close ears; eyes are dark and narrow. You can see her Bull Terrier courage, spirit, and fun nature in her expression. You can’t have one without the other.
Her long, arched neck flows into a body balanced with lovely, round muscle front and rear. Her elbows are held straight. She has strong bone and upright pasterns and stands perfectly parallel on correct feet.
Her movement proved her construction, and she was sent forward to the Charlie Girl Cup. We also sent #13, ROUGEBULL FRAGILE SILENCE AT DOUGHERTY, on to the Charlie Girl Cup. Noting that he and the winner share the same sire.
BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX
Mr. M & Mrs. A Taylor’s CH RAGNAROK HALFDAN THE BLACK Breeders: Owners.
(Bilboen Quantum of Solace x Ragnarok Boadicea)
This dog’s general appearance comes directly from the Standard: “Strongly built, muscular, well balanced and active with a keen, determined and intelligent expression.” He was having an excellent time, and his handler expertly kept him steady.
His head is massive and egg-shaped, without hollows or indentations, and he has correct dentition. As with the Winner, his expression is excellent.
His body is well-rounded with marked spring of rib and great depth from withers to brisket. His back is short, strong, with topline behind withers level, arching slightly over his broad, well-muscled loins. Underline forms a graceful upward curve. His chest is broad when viewed from the front.
He has quality bone, strong pasterns, and correct feet. His short, dark coat shone from the inside out.
He moved freely with the “typical jaunty air” and did move a bit close behind.

The International Trophy 2025
Winner: Multi Ch. Leo Messi Hooligan’s Bull
Best Opposite Sex: Avela de Canis Growth
Judges: Lorraine Sheppard and Bill Lambert.
Winner of The International Trophy 2025: Leo Messi Hooligan’s Bull (Poland)
Winner of The International Trophy 2025: Leo Messi Hooligan’s Bull (Poland) and Best Opposite Sex 2025: Avela De Canis Growth (Portugal)
Judges Critique – Lorraine Sheppard (Polanca)
Firstly, I must thank the Committee of the Bull Terrier Club for asking me to judge the International Trophy, to be asked even at short notice was an honour and I gladly accepted my very first Major Trophy assignment. It was exciting to be judging a group of Bull Terriers from various countries around the world, I don’t believe I have seen most of them before. I am grateful to the competitors for the effort they put into travelling the miles with their prized dogs, it is no mean feat to show overseas and for some this involved the extra pressure and worry of flying their precious cargo into the UK. Thank you also to the ring stewards on the day for keeping everything in order and clear for us to concentrate on the judging.
Lastly, I must also thank my co-judge Mr Bill Lambert (Caliber), for his company in judging this group of competitors, we mostly agreed until the very last decision when we went our separate ways on the top spot. My choice was the beautiful brindle bitch, Bill’s choice was the heavyweight white dog. The referee was called, Mrs Maureen Hughes (Graymor),and after considering both the selected dogs, decided to go with my co-judges choice, the male, and awarded him top honours for the second time that weekend.
The International Trophy Winner – Leo Messi Hooligan’s Bull (Poland)
Substantial heavyweight typy white dog, powerful all through and screaming masculinity. Excelled in bone and strength, owning the ground he stood on. Good length of head with classical profile, smoothly arcing all the way down from the top of his head to the tip of his black nose. Good mouth, deep underjaw and a well filled muzzle. Piercing glint to a small, dark eye, ears are a tad low. Good length of well-muscled neck into a well laid shoulder into the deepest of chests. Deep round rib and decent tuck up. Straight on he has bone for days, however, would prefer tighter feet. Moderate length of back, holding his topline, he moved away with drive. Well-muscled and angulated rear, tail set on correctly though carried up with excitement. Maximum substance for size is required and this male delivered.
Best Opposite Sex – Avela De Canis Growth (Portugal)
Uber smart and showy rich mahogany brindle and white bitch, well-marked, on her toes the whole time, she asked to be looked at. Super type with balance and oozing femininity but also with the required Bull Terrier muscularity. Sweeping profile with punishing expression, ears bang on top and used all the time. Well placed, dark piercing eye, powerful long head filled right up with finish. Super muzzle strength, deep underjaw. Mouth just off scissor. The most elegant of necks into a beautiful round gun barrel chest. Shoulder could be laid a tad better. Ample bone for size and type. Straight front into tight cat feet. Short back and deep rib cage, super tuck up. Strong, well-muscled rear with lovely angulated second thigh. Tail set on correctly. Moved out with drive but did lose her topline on the move. This girl simply owned the ring, totally at one with her handler. I chose her as my winner for the trophy over the male. My co-judge preferred Leo Messi Hooligan’s Bull.
Others that deserve a mention and who caught my eye in the shortlisted dogs and bitches:
Energon Wolverine at Super Bowl’s (USA) – a super balanced white boy – lovely make and shape with a beautiful head, flowing lines and in pristine condition. In the company today he was beaten on masculinity. However, a very smart boy who I am sure will only improve with maturity. Everything was in its right place.
Ice Court Tiger Lash (Brazil) – eye catching white with brindle eye patch, balanced and typy girl with lots of virtue, elegant body lines and stunning head piece. Another who claimed the ring and demanded to be noticed. Shown in immaculate condition. The decision between her and the Portuguese bitch for me was a hairs breadth. Both are girls to be immensely proud of breeding.
Judge: Lorraine Sheppard
Judges Critique – Bill Lambertd (Caliber)
I thank the Bull Terrier Club Committee for inviting me to judge this competition where I was delighted to officiate alongside Lorraine Shepherd.
I remember when the competition was first envisaged; It was in 1995 when the first and only overseas bred dog; Bulldors Brixton Bovver Boy at Navada was eligible to be considered for invitation to the Major Trophies. Faced with an unprecedented situation he was invited to compete in the Ormandy Jug, but the Committee decided that from that time the Trophies would be restricted to UK and Irish bred dogs, but that an International Trophy would be considered if ‘ever there was a demand’, in the future.
The removing of import restrictions in 2003 allowing easier entry to overseas dog into the UK ensured that there would be a demand. 23 years later this competition has now really come of age; with a very full entry of 23 outstanding dogs from across the globe, it has become a magnificent spectacle and an important part of the Trophy Show.
My co-judge and I decided that easiest way to deal with this number of dogs was to judge the dogs and bitches separately and then once we had judged them make a short list from each sex. After judging these we selected five dogs to go forward, these were Energon Wolverine At Super Bowls from the USA, More Than A Feeling, from the Netherlands, Skylarks Urban Legend from Belgium, Brutal Bull Tykoona from Spain and Leo Messi Hooligans Bull, from Poland
We the turned to the bitches and selected 4 to go forward; Avela De Canis Growth from Portugal, Ice Court Tiger Lash, from Brazil, Poisson Ivy Illusionist’s Charm from Slovenia and Rasels Bull Legendafrom Slovakia.
We then came together and found we were in complete agreement with our final 2 selections; Best Dog was Leo Messi Hooligans Bull. He is a true heavyweight dog of great power and substance with a magnificent head; power packed and completely filled up. He has tremendous bone and a super deep chest. His elbows are well tucked in. He turns his feet out slightly and I would prefer a better ear set, but overall a magnificent powerhouse of a dog that screams “stud dog” He covered the ground well with big easy strides and he has a calm, happy temperament and worked well with his handler making this an easy choice
We then turned to the bitches and quickly agreed that the outstanding bitch was
Avela De Canis Growth, a tall shapely black brindle, stunning in profile, with a beautiful arc to her head, a deep strong muzzle, well placed and well carried ears and a tiny eye giving her a great expression. She has a beautiful neck and well laid shoulder, correct topline and excellent well angulated hindquarters. She moved fairly well but did lose her topline a little.
That’s when our agreement ceased! I preferred the dog for his power, bone and substance whilst my co-judge preferred the bitch for her overall shape and exquisite quality. We found we could not agree and so called for the referee Maureen Hughes who chose the dog as winner of the International Trophy with the Terjos’ Trophy for BOS going to the bitch. I am sure on another day the positions could be reversed as these are both outstanding Bull Terriers. Many congratulations to the owners and breeders.
Referee: Maureen Hughs (Graymor)
I was called into referee the international trophy and the two dogs I was asked to consider where:
Leo Messi Hooligans Bull – White power house of a dog. His head is completely filled and turned. Small eyes giving good expression. Good mouth. Ears could be better placed. Super round bone throughout. Gun barrel chest. Level topline and good spring of rib. He stands straight on his front but does turn his feet out. Muscular quarters. He covered the ground and moved better in behind than in the front.
Terjos’ trophy for Best Opposite Sex – Avela De Canis Growth – Black brindle feminine bitch with beautiful downface. Small dark eyes and ears well placed. Mouth fault. Long elegant neck. Straight front and tight cat feet. Well muscled quarters. Standing a good topline but she lost this on the move. Moved okay.
Preferred the power, bone and substance of the dog.
Two beautiful Bull terriers.

It was my great pleasure to have Simon Parsons as my Co-judge and we were in complete agreement with our decisions. I really enjoyed this assignment, going over some top quality animals and discussing their virtues.
Regent Trophy Winner – Ch. Napiers Pure Copper
Winner of the Regent Trophy was Fletcher’s Ch Napier Pure Copper – Glorious deep red and white with smut markings which add to his expression. His head is filled right up with excellent turndown and wicked eye. For a big heavyweight dog he has small neat ears and a shapely body. Good reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders. Straight front, good round bone, deep barrelled chest, correct topline, well muscled all through with very strong quarters with good tail set. Easily the best mover here on the day, he went on to win the Charlie Girl Cup for movement under us. His movement is parallel, striding out in front, covering the ground with ease and his piston type rear action completes the picture. Nicely handled throughout.
Coverwood Casket Winner and Runner-up to the Regent trophy, also winner of the Golden State Trophy for Best Opposite Sex – Ch. Bluepoint Flye Fox
(Photo Alice Van Kempen)
Runner up and BOS was Heath & Morris’ Ch Bluepoint Flye Fox – Top quality white with black ears and eye patch. Lovely arch to head, completely filled with good finish. Nice eye and ear set. Good reach of neck with correct shoulder placement and a good solid topline. Straight front, good round body and well bent stifles. She stands square and her excellent type won out on the day. Moved fairly well, a little close behind. Her handler got the most out of her.
A bitch who pressed hard for BOS was Bradley’s Aricon Eyeanna at Olliebrad – A classical white with red head markings. Long head and filled right up. She has flowing bodylines and is well made all through with straight front, correct topline and good quarters. Nicely handled and moving fairly well, again a little close behind.

It was a great joy to be asked to be one of the judges for the Regent Trophy, something I could never conceivably have anticipated when I first attended this event as a teenager 51 years ago. As a whole the breed can at times be sceptical, shall we say, about non-breed people judging the BT so I am very grateful for the opportunities I have been given by the committee.
Even better, my co-judge was club president Linda McGregor – I’ve known Linda and Danny for more years than any of us might care to remember, and very much respect their continuing great contribution to both BTs and Minis.
Regent Trophy Winner – Ch. Napiers Pure Copper
(Photo Alice Van Kempen)

Happily, we had no difficulty in agreeing on our winners. As soon as Ch Napier Pure Copper strode into the ring it was obvious that here was a dog to be reckoned with. A smartly marked rich red, he has that elusive ‘presence’ which elevates an excellent dog into an outstanding one, unquestionably masculine with enormous substance yet combining quality, clean lines and a sense of style.
His head is long and deep with a well filled muzzle and good roman finish. His ears are small, the right shape and beautifully carried, and his eyes dark and triangular giving a super expression when viewed from the front. His arched neck of correct length is well set into clean well laid shoulders, with matching upper arm giving the right amount of forechest. Straight front legs with tremendous bone and decent feet are set the correct distance apart. Superb spring of rib and a smooth topline and underline contribute to a beautifully balanced outline, finished off by a well set and carried tail and powerful, correctly angulated and well muscled hindquarters.
On the move he’s full of good natured exuberance and once settled goes true both ways, remarkably so for such a big, strong male, and drives off his hocks with characteristic jauntiness, matched by correct reach in front. He can comfortably carry a slight mouth fault.
Happy to help him join the list of distinguished winners of the Regent Trophy and he had no difficulty in also taking the Charlie Girl Cup for movement.
A magnificent Bull Terrier – my congratulations to his owners/breeders.
I must also mention Ch Ragnarok Halfdan The Black, a top class black brindle who made a big impression. He has a lovely well filled male head, and scored here on mouth and profile. Plenty of bone and substance and an ultra-compact well-knit body. Not quite the sheer scope or precision on the move as Copper but in many years would have gone higher and will look even better with full maturity.
Coverwood Casket Winner and Runner-up to the Regent trophy, also winner of the Golden State Trophy for Best Opposite Sex – Ch. Bluepoint Flye Fox
The bitches were a strong group and in addition to the established stars there were, I hope, a number of future champions. I felt that three were in contention today and Linda and I agreed that our choice for the Coverwood Casket and Golden State Trophy would be the beautiful white Ch Bluepoint Flye Fox. She is a truly classical type with the most lovely outline and overall balance, flowing lines from nose to tail, a super well filled head with a lovely unexaggerated profile, wicked eye and well carried ears. Sufficient bone to match her size, a shapely body and correct angles, a smart showgirl and full of class and quality. Moved well in front, a shade close behind, and looked a picture going round retaining her outline.
Made a lovely pair with the overall winner, epitomising the breed in male and female. My compliments to her owner-breeders on establishing a distinct ‘look’ and producing such a succession of classic beauties.
I also much admired Aricon Eyeanna at Olliebrad, another lovely white with a really superb head, clean neck and shoulder and plenty of bone while retaining her femininity, strode out well with true front action. Winner scored slightly in feet and maturity of body but this is a very exciting youngster whose title can’t be far away.
Ch Sansarabull Sinful Desire at Bullyview certainly wouldn’t let us ignore her, with her great style and showmanship. This upstanding fawn has an excellent head and expression, reachy neck, good topline, bone and hindquarters. She moves absolutely true both ways, which made her a contender for the Charlie Girl Cup, but could have a shade more reach in front. Superbly trained and handled.

Many thanks to the committee of the Bull Terrier Club for their kind invitation to judge. It was a pleasure to judge with Bob Thomas, especially as we were in complete agreement about winner and runner up.
Ormandy Jug for Dogs Winner – Ch. Napiers Pure Copper
Our winner was Ch Napier Pure Copper; a red and white dog who I’ve admired from the ringside. He has great bone and substance but without a hint of coarseness, his head is very strong and masculine with good length, arc, width and fill. He’s beautifully balanced with a good length of neck, a gun barrel front, broad chest and deep brisket, excellent shoulder placement and correct topline, which he kept on the move. No surprise that he went on to take the Charlie Girl Cup for movement as he was superb on the move when viewed from any direction – always a pleasure for me and not something you see everyday from such a powerful, heavyweight dog.
Ormandy Jug for Dogs Runner-up – Ch. Bilboen Pickpocket
(Photo Alice Van Kempen)

Runner Up was a great favourite of mine, Ch Bilboen Pickpocket; A striking, masculine white with a beautiful head, having terrific strength in profile, width and fill with the benefit of a perfect bite. Like the winner he is very well balanced, having a good neck, correct shoulder and topline and a good straight front. He moved out with purpose both ways but could not match the winner for movement.

I would like to thank the Committee of THE BULL TERRIER CLUB for the kind invitation to Judge once again, this highly acclaimed show. It was a pleasure judging with Elaine Clark (Grand opera) who I have known for more than 30 years.
The dog entries were of very high quality; two dogs stood out right away. My co-judge and I agreed completely on our placements.
Ormandy Jug for Dogs Winner – Ch. Napiers Pure Copper
Fletcher’s Ch. Napier Pure Copper, a red and white thundering heavyweight, he possesses excellent bone and substance, a beautiful head with a small dark eye, ears well set, very strong muzzle, packed and filled to perfection. Extremely well balanced. Strong topline. His movement was the best that I have ever seen on a heavyweight dog in my 52 years in the breed. He had an excellent temperament as well. I think that I am correct that he is the first Bull Terrier since Ch. Boco Be Good of Aricon, to win the REGENT TROPHY , THE ORMANDY JUG, SANDAWANA TROPHY, and the CHARLIE GIRL CUP for movement in the same year.
Ormandy Jug for Dogs Runner-up – Ch. Bilboen Pickpocket
(Photo Ella Twyman – Bellafortis)

Young’s Ch. Bilboen Pickpocket, an extremely eye catching all white dog with a super head, turned and filled with a magnificent eye and expression. Excellent bone and straight front, excellent topline, which he held on the move, with well-angled hindquarters. I feel this dog will be a great asset as a stud dog. He was unfortunate to run into the winner on this day as he is a worthy winner.

Winner Ch. Bluepoint Flye Fox

Judges Critique Penny Sands (Krakenexis)
I was absolutely delighted to be asked by the Bull Terrier club to judge the Ormandy Jugs for bitches at the 2024 Trophies. It was a total pleasure and privilege to officiate with my co-judge Mr Carl Pew, and I’m pleased to say, we were in total agreement with our final two. Having said that, there was quite clearly quality in abundance throughout this trophy.
Ormandy Jug for Bitches Winner – Ch. Bluepoint Flye Fox
Our winner was the feminine Ch. Bluepoint Flye Fox, what a stunning bitch this is; she is a compact white with brindle head markings. She has a super outline and is so well balanced. Her head has a gentle curve for the entire length, is well filled with depth and a good strong underjaw, good mouth, a piercing eye plus neat ears. Her shapely neck fits well into her super straight front with well angulated shoulders and a good length of upper arm and elbows tucked in. Good for ribbing and topline, she has a strong loin with quarters that have power being super muscular with a strong second thigh. She stands on neat feet and moves off with an easy stride. At one with her handler, I found her quite exquisite.
Ormandy Jug for Bitches Runner-up – Ch. Bilboen Renaissance
(Photo Alice Van Kempen)

Runner up, Ch. Bilboen Renaissance, another white from the top drawer, built on slightly larger lines and a smidge longer than Flye Fox. Her head is classic with super arc, fill and finish with a wicked eye and correct mouth. She has a super strong front with good breadth to her chest, shoulders back and a good spring of rib. With hocks well let down and stifles well bent, she moved with a free and easy gait. Very attentive to her hander, she was quite the showgirl.

It was my distinct honor to judge the “Ormandy Bitch Jug” this year. My thanks to The Bull Terrier Club for the invitation and to the exhibitors and breeders selected. I enjoyed meeting and judging with my co-judge, Penny Sands. I was especially impressed by the depth of quality in the ring. After examinations were completed, we had 3 on our radar. A quick discussion gave us our two outstanding winners.
Ormandy Jug for Bitches Winner – Ch. Bluepoint Flye Fox
Compact white with brindle marking, square in outline, head has a dramatic profile with finish, excellent expression with ears set on high, foreface is completely filled with out defect leading to a deep and wide muzzle, minor mouth fault, good length of neck to well placed shoulder layback, forelegs are placed tightly under the chest with good straight round bone, deep well sprung ribcage with short loin with a rising underline, correct topline that held up while moving, rear is moderately angulated with short hocks, moving she has balanced reach and drive. We were pleased to see her rewarded in the Regent Trophy as well.
Ormandy Jug for Bitches Runner-up – Ch. Bilboen Renaissance
These two were so close in quality (and also standing next to each other), I could almost use the same critique to describe her. Her head has a long smoothly turned profile, wicked expression, foreface has excellent length, fully filled, with a correct bite, lovely length of neck to well-placed shoulder, well- sprung ribs with good depth, body is off square, excellent topline and tail set, rear quarters strongly muscled with good reach and drive.
Also in our discussion was Young’s Ch. Sansarabull Sinfull Desire at Bullyview with her outstanding movement that we all strive for.

I would like to thank the Committee of the Bull Terrier Club for the honour to judge the Sandawana Trophy. A big thank you to the stewards for their hard work and my co judge Steve Patterson.
Sandawana Trophy Winner – Ch. Napier Pure Copper
Two dogs were in contention:
Ch. Napier Pure Copper
Upstanding heavyweight, 2 ½ year red and white dog, has a strong head with width (would like a touch more profile), good ear placement, mouth fault, straight front, level top line (which he held on the move), strong second thigh, good bend of stifle (moved parallel both ways), put through for movement. Not surprised he won Charlie Girl Cup.
Ch. Ragnarok Halfdan the Black

23 month old black brindle. Have liked this dog from a youngster, powerful head, with width and turn giving a good profile, correct mouth, straight front (has a good reach of neck), well balanced, level top line, good quarters and bend of stifle and moved well when settled. A hard dog to show, the handler did well.
A close decision, preferred Halfdan the Black because of the head and mouth. Referee was called in and the winner was Pure Copper.
Blazeaway Trophy Winner and Best Opposite Sex in the Sandawana – Ch. Sansarabull Sinful Desire at Bullyview
20 month old red and white bitch, classical head with width and turn, good eyes giving good expression, straight front, good reach of neck, level top line, short in back, good quarters and bend of stifle, good tail carriage, moved parallel both ways. Put through for movement.
Also, Rightstuff Strike put through for movement.

I would like to thank the committee of The Bull Terrier Club for inviting me to judge at their prestigious Trophy Show. To my ring Stewards, who did a sterling job in making sure everything ran smoothly. Also, to the exhibitors for allowing me to go over their charges. The hospitality and organisation were exemplary. It was an honour and a privilege to judge the Sandawana Trophy along with my Co Judge Mr Michael Morgans (Romanga). Unfortunately, we could not agree on our winner, my preference was for No11 Ch Napier Pure Copper, whom I considered to be an easy winner, while my Co Judge preference was for No13 Ch Ragnarok Halfdan The Black.
The referee, Mr John Rawlings (Mapalee) was required to make the final decision.
Sandawana Trophy Winner – Ch. Napier Pure Copper
(Mr & Mrs M & T Fletcher). 2 ½ year-old upstanding red & white dog, a great showman who always commands your attention. Super power-packed head with a strong sweeping profile, bags of fill, depth and width, a proper rugby ball of a head. Well-placed dark oblique eye with ears bang on top give a wicked expression. Slight mouth fault, which he can easily carry as his many virtues far out-weigh this. Strong powerful neck leading to a well-placed shoulder and gun barrel front. Super round bone and nice tight feet for such a big boy. Deep brisket and good tuck up, good top line which he holds on the move, well angulated and muscled rear quarters & good tail set. He moved free & easy both ways with purpose and drive. A once in a lifetime dog who has a great temperament to match his outstanding quality. A pleasure to go over and was without doubt a worthy winner. Well-presented & handled.
It was pleasing to see he went on to further glories in the other Trophies by winning all and gaining a clean sweep on the day, a fantastic achievement indeed. Well-done to all concerned.
Blazeaway Trophy Winner and Best Opposite Sex in the Sandawana – Ch. Sansarabull Sinful Desire at Bullyview
(Mr & Mrs J & A Young). 20-month-old fawn & white feminine bitch. She has a gentle sweeping profile to her head with enough width and fill, dark oblique eye with neat well-placed ears delivers a super expression, bite correct, swan like neck, front ok with good bone and tight feet. Can appear a tad short in upper arm, deep brisket and good tuck up, tends to overly stretch out making her look somewhat long cast, would prefer a better tail set, when she lowers it she looks far more balanced. Unfortunately, she had just blown her coat which was visible in her flanks. Movement was true both ways. Well-handled.
Others Shortlisted:
1: Abgar The Gypsy King: A cobby brindle & white dog with good movement & many virtues.
10: Ch Kenxtwen Let’s Go: A compact well balanced red & white dog with many virtues
13: Ch Ragnarok Halfdan The Black: An upstanding black brindle & white dog with power packed head, full of bone & substance with good movement.
23: Clansmann Flame of Glory: Upstanding red & white bitch with shapely flowing lines.
31: Quentinhill Chocolicious: Cobby well balanced mahogany brindle with many virtues.
As an observation, I found the quality in the dogs exceeded that of the bitches this year, which is rather unusual for Bull Terriers.

I was called upon as the Referee for The Sandawana Trophy to Judge between two dogs that turned out to be Fletchers CHAMPION NAPIER PURE COPPER and Taylors CHAMPION RAGNAROK HALFDAN THE BLACK, after going over and moving both dogs, my preference fell on Fletchers NAPIER PURE COPPER for his overall balance, movement and presence. He has a powerful head, turned and filled right up, powerful neck, into correct shoulder, gun barrel front, tight feet, great depth of brisket, correct topline, well muscled and angulated rear which showed in his movement which was parallel, with bags of drive. It was pleasing to see him go on to make a clean sweep in the rest of the Trophies.

The International Trophy – Judges Di Cross and John Rawlings
Winner Rasels Bull Mr Chaos

Judges Critique Di Cross (Missigai) Australia
Thank you to The Bull Terrier Club for the honour of being on the judging panel for this year’s Trophy Show weekend. Never did I think when I got my first Bull Terrier, decades ago, that I would be sitting on the “top table” as part of the panel. It was truly a wonderful experience to be part of the weekend. Thank you sincerely.
Thank you to the exhibitors, who travelled with your dogs such long distances to be part of the biggest entry for the International Show. Your sportsmanship and gracious acceptance of our decisions is much appreciated.
Lastly, thank you to my co-judge, Mr John Rawlings for helping to make this wonderful judging assignment such a memorable experience.
The International Trophy Winner – Rasels Bull Mr. Chaos
What a lovely dog! He strode into the ring and made his presence known. Balanced and typey, he exuded masculinity. A filled egg shaped head with a deep wide muzzle and correct bite. His expression was enhanced by deep, dark well placed eyes and well placed small ears. Strong bone for his size and tight feet. Strongly built with an elegant length of neck flowing into a well muscled body. Well-sprung ribs. Short backed and level top line. His correct movement is a product of his front and rear construction. His showy white coat enhanced the picture. Well handled.
Winner of the Terjo’s Trophy and Best opposite Sex in The International Trophy – Opaline Orchid Timar
(Photo Alice Van Kempen)

A lovely bitch, who is balanced, very elegant and feminine. She is a picture in the ring. Well filled, gently arced head with a correct bite and deep muzzle. Deep dark triangular eyes and small well placed ears compliment her expression. Her elegant neck flows into a short backed body with well sprung ribs and a sparkling white coat. She covered the ground easily with reach and drive, a result of well placed shoulders and well angled rear. Developed forechest and strong bone. Tight feet. Lovely show condition and well handled.

First I must thank the Officers and Committee of The Bull Terrier Club for inviting me to Judge The International Trophy and Congratulate all concerned for a well presented, organised and enjoyable Show. I really enjoyed my day and the welcome I received.
It was nice to see that all exhibits were presented in good condition, were well handled and temperaments were spot on. After going over and moving them all with my Co. Judge Di. Cross it was clear that we both had the same two animals in mind for the Top Spots.
The International Trophy Winner – Rasels Bull Mr. Chaos
Our Winner Elwards RASELS BULL MR. CHAOS a White Dog that exuded type, balance and quality throughout. He has a turned and filled head without exaggeration, small dark eye, neat well placed ears, all giving the correct expression. He has a long neck into correct shoulder, straight front with tidy feet, deep chest, short back with correct top line and tail set which is short and whiplike. He has well muscled first and second thigh with good angulation, he moved well both ways with drive, a worthy winner who owned the ring.
Winner of the Terjo’s Trophy and Best opposite Sex in The International Trophy – Opaline Orchid Timar
Our Best Opposite Sex Jastrzebska OPALINE ORCHID TIMAR a White Bitch who like the dog winner has bags of type and quality. She has a beautiful feminine filled and turned head with correct eye and ear placement, a long graceful neck into a good shoulder, straight front with tight feet. She is short with proper topline, good rear angulation and moved with drive, a picture of femininity.

The Bull Terrier Club Trophy Show – Regent Trophy 2023 – held 18th February 2024 at The Royal Court, Tamworth
The Regent Trophy
Judges Critique – Joy Johnson (Javarke)
It was the greatest of honours to judge the most prestigious ‘Regent Trophy’. My sincere thanks to the committee of The Bull Terrier Club for the invitation and my congratulations to the breeders and exhibitors who were selected for competition. It was a pleasure to judge with my co judge Teresa Westwood and my thanks go to our referee Laura Cox who we called in for the dogs.
Regent Trophy Winner – Clansmann Wicked Deejay
This splendid bitch was a stand out winner for me, I was delighted that my co judge and I were in agreement. Her type, presence and expression grabbed my attention immediately, her head is feminine in profile, yet has great width viewed from the front and is completely packed, her mouth is correct, she has an excellent eye and small well placed ear, combined with a dead straight front, good bone & neat feet. From the side her body lines flow, she has, good forechest, a correct shoulder, short back and strong topline, her hind quarters have a good bend of stifle, carrying her well on the move from behind and from the side she held her topline and correct tailset. She is well balanced and screams ‘bull terrier’ when viewed from all angles. She was on her toes the entire time, never stopped showing.
Coverwood Casket for Runner Up – CH Grande Finale of Briden
A beautiful bitch of similar type to our winner, beautiful head piece with an excellent eye, correct mouth and good front, an excellent mover when viewed coming and going. She didn’t quite have the strength in shoulder/forechest/topline as our winner, but a topclass bitch who exudes breed type, who we put forward for the Charlie Girl Cup For Movement.
The Golden State Trophy BOS – CH Aricon Eye Roller
A thumping great young dog in hard condition, beautiful brindle coat, he screams ‘male’ with his great bone, strength of head, width of jaw and big correct teeth which are all so often missing in our breed. He has good feet, a straight front & great depth of forechest. When viewed side on he has a beautiful outline with super angulation in both front & rear, on the move he loses it a little and carries his tail high, but his powerful hindquarters gave him great drive from behind. This dog exudes power, great virtue and masculinity which for me made him the clear winner for BOS.
My co judge preferred Bluepoint Sparrow Hawk, a very correct dog in excellent condition who was at one with his handler, with excellent movement both coming and going that we put forward and later awarded The Charlie Girl Cup for movement, which he won with some to spare.
The referee Laura Cox was bought in to judge the two boys, she was in agreement with CH Aricon Eye Roller.
Others who made our shortlist who I would like to mention. Irazistabull Star Of Vulcan, powerful white dog with a great head piece and a shapley body, I’d have liked him a few lbs lighter, in harder condition and tidier feet.
Medusamyne Lovely Jubbly Pumpkin, loved her classical bodylines when viewed from the side, would have liked tidier feet and more width in her foreface.
Clansmann Flame of Glory, elegant red/wh with great construction, never stopped showing, would have like more bone and more power to her head.

I would like to thank the Committee of The Bull Terriere Club for the honour of asking me to judge the Regent Trophy along with my co-judge Joy Johnson. It was a privilege to be presented with so many beautiful bull terriers and my thanks go to the exhibitors for presenting and handling them in a professional manner.
Regent Trophy Winner – Clansmann Wicked Deejay
She catches your eye as soon as she comes in the ring. She showed from the minute she came in to the minute she left and was handled perfectly. She has a beautiful filled, turned head, correct mouth and punishing expression set off with a small eye and correct placed ears. Lovely straight front with right amount of bone and substance for her size. Her front is straight and she has nice tight feet. Viewed from the side she has a well placed shoulder, short level back, good turn of stifle and correct tailset. When moving, she moved with drive both ways and held her topline well.
Coverwood Casket for Runner Up – Ch Grande Finale of Briden
Another eye catching bitch who screams type at you and cannot be ignored. Very similar in type to our winner. Her head is filled, turned and power packed when viewed from the front. Correct mouth. Good amount of bone and substance and well angulated rear which she used well when moving as she covers the ground with ease. Can lose her topline slightly when moving but goes well both ways. She was put forward for the Charlie Girl Cup for Movement.
For me it was a very close decision. Two excellent bitches who exude type but the winners smooth outline and holding it together on the move meant that my co-judge and myself were in agreement.
The Golden State Trophy BOS – Ch Aricon Eye Roller
Great conditioned, young brindle dog. He has a power packed head when viewed from the front with a good underjaw, correct mouth and keen expression. His front is straight with good forechest and tremendous round bone and tight feet. When viewed in profile he can carry his tail slightly high but good rear angulation means he moves with drive and power.
My preference was Bluepoint Sparrow Hawk, a tall upstanding white dog who has correct make and shape. Beautiful outline when stood and also on the move. His head is filled and turned and mouth correct. Lovely reach of neck into well placed shoulders. Level topline finished with correct tailset. For me, very hard to fault the overall package. We put him through for the Charlie Girl Cup for Movement, which he won.
After much deliberation, the referee Laura Cox was asked to judge the two males, her choice was Ch Aricon Eye Roller.
I must mention a couple others that made the shortlist:
Irazistabull Star of Vulcan – white dog with good bone and substance and a masculine filled head. Good forechest and straight front. Would have preferred him carrying a little less weight.
Clansmann Flame of Glory – Super showy red and white bitch. Very balanced and has good reach of neck which makes for a beautiful outline. Feminine head with correct expression and good mouth. To be critical would like slightly more bone.

Thank you to the Officers & Committee for the prestigious invitation to officiate as referee for The Bull Terrier Club International Trophy & The Regent Trophy for 2023. I was called to act as referee for two dogs in The Regent Trophy to decide the winner of the Best Opposite Sex to The Regent Trophy Winner.
My winner was Ch.Aricon Eye Roller, owned & bred by Mr Eric Stanley. This is an upstanding two year old brindle & white male. He is full of bone & substance. Head is very good length ,well filled & turned with a powerful underjaw. Good eye ear & expression. Good depth of chest with straight front, good lay of shoulder. Topline a little soft on the move, good back angulation with very good drive behind & excellent front movement. He is in very good body & muscle condition.
My runner-up was Bluepoint Sparrowhawk, owned & bred by Ms D Heath & Mr S Morris. This is a almost 3 year old white male. He has a very good outline & well balanced. Head is correct shape with good length, well turned & good fill. Good eye & ear-set with very good expression. Good front, I would like a little better lay of shoulder. Top-line a little soft on the move, good back angulation I would prefer more drive in back movement. Good body condition.
Ormandy Jug for Dogs
The Bull Terrier Club Trophy Show – Ormandy Dog Jug 2023 – held 18th February 2024
Judges Critique – Bill Blacker (Crossguns)
It is always a honour to be asked to judge, but to be asked to judge the Bull Terrier Clubs Trophy Show, the clubs most prestigious show is not only an honour, but a privilege too especially as I had not seen any of the dogs which were being exhibited before.
I would like to thank the club for inviting me to judge the Ormandy Jug for Dogs and also the hospitality shown to myself and my wife. The show was well organised, everything ran smoothly and there was a great atmosphere.
I enjoyed judging with my co judge, Pete Blair.
There were some excellent exhibits for me to assess which was a honour to do but unfortunately there were only two placings.
Myself and my co judge came to the decision on the winners but differed in opinion as to which way round the placing would be, therefore the referee was called upon to decide. I preferred the Young’s Ch BILBOEN PICK POCKET as for me, he was more balanced, had a better top line, moved very well and had a better front.
Winner Ormandy Jug for Dogs. Stanley’s CH ARICON EYE ROLLER.
An upstanding strong brindle and white dog. He has a good bite, neat ears, good eye and is a well boned strong dog. He was exhibited in good order and kept his handler on his toes.
Runner Up Ormandy Jug for Dogs. Young’s CH BILBOEN PICK POCKET.
This white dog was my choice. He has an excellent profile and never stopped showing. He has a strong well turned head, deep dark set eyes, with neat ears bang on top of his head, correct scissor bite, straight front with neat feet, level top line which he held on the move, well placed tail, strong backend, moved with power and drive.
Judges Critique – Pete Blair (Megaville)
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the officers and committee of The Bull Terrier Club for inviting me to judge this prestigious trophy, it was a great honour and pleasure to do this alongside my co-judge Bill Blacker.
There were some quality dogs in the ring, it finally came down to two dogs and we couldn’t agree so we had the referee Dawn Godsall called in. The winner for me was Ch Aricon Eye Roller, Bill preferred Ch Bilboen Pickpocket.
WINNER – Mr E Stanley’s Ch Aricon Eye Roller
A top quality upstanding well marked brindle and white boy who has lovely round bone and great substance. He has a power packed head which is beautifully filled and turned, a lovely wide underjaw and perfect dentition. When he uses his ears they are well placed, he also has a lovely expression. This then completes the picture and shows how beautiful his head is.
His front is straight and he has beautiful cat feet, his neck is strong, elbows well tucked in good topline and strong powerful rear. He moves well with great drive from behind.
I believe this to be the last dog Mr Stanley will be showing and would just like to congratulate him and his famous kennel Aricon on the great contribution to the breed over many years, he has had some outstanding examples of the breed and will be surely missed.
RUNNER UP – Mr & Mrs. Youngs Ch Bilboen Pickpocket
White boy with an ear marking, who is shown to perfection by his very experienced handler.
His head is filled with great turn, for me a little too much turn. He has a beautiful expression, well placed ears and a perfect mouth. Lovely long strong neck, straight front and good feet.
Good spring of rib and strong muscled rear, he moved well both ways and showed his socks off through the whole of the judging. I preferred the overall bone and substance and head of the winner however our runner up is also a lovely example of the breed and worthy champion.
Two dogs I feel I need to mention are Irazistabull Star of Vulcan an all white boy who is well made throughout, has a lovely filled and turned head, super expression and moved well both ways.
Also, Bluepoint Sparrowhawk; he is also very well made throughout and was at one with his very experienced handler. His head is also super and mouth correct. Another top quality boy who moves well, and was handled perfectly.
Referee – Ormandy Dog Jugs – Dawn Godsall (Neverland)
I had to step out into the ring sooner than expected as the referee for the Ormandy Jug for Dogs when Bill Blacker and Peter Blair were unable to agree, you are given the numbers of the two dogs concerned but no indication given if it was the winner or runner up you were selecting.
The dogs I had to look at were Eric Stanley’s Ch. Aricon Eye Roller and John Young’s Ch. Bilboen Pickpocket, Eye Roller is a lovely substantial brindle and white, powerful well packed head with a excellent eye, neat ears and correct mouth, lovely front and shoulders and really good feet, well developed rib cage and his movement was good, I just felt to be pernickety that he just fell away a bit over his quarters.
Pickpocket is a white dog who is very well made with a wicked eye, good ears and mouth, nicely made mature dog who moved well and was expertly show by his owner, unfortunately I found his profile over done for me so I made Eye Roller the best of the two, it really was nit picking, both were of high quality.
Ormandy Jug for Bitches
Winner BARNESMORE ICE ANGEL GORBAIN
We chose the White bitch Barnesmore Ice Angel Gorbain owned by Sarah Thompson and Roger Woodward, I was very taken with her balance, she is so well put together, beautiful head with length and fill, excellent eye and good ears, super mouth with ice big teeth, flowing neck and a good front with tidy feet, good rib cage and strong loin with powerful quarters and a correct tail set, she moved around the ring with very little effort, beautiful shown and presented.
2023 Runner up, Ormandy Jub for Bitches: MEDUSAMYNE LOVELY JUBBLY PUMPKIN
We awarded the runner up spot to Miss Hurst’s Medusamyne Lovely Jubbly Pumpkin, another eye catching white, very similar in type to our winner, lovely long head with fill and finish, great expression, correct mouth, perhaps not quite the neck but a good front and feet, good spring of rib and powerful quarters, moved well and we put her forward for the Charlie Girl Cup, not quite the balance of the winner but still a beautiful bitch, it really was splitting hairs.
Judge – Dawn Godsall
I sincerely appreciate The Bull Terrier Club Committee’s trust in me with this impactful assignment. In taking my first walk around the show ring, I found myself thinking that, at this moment, I was looking into a bakery window and seeing one delicious cake after another. So many stunning bitches! I thoroughly enjoyed working alongside my co-judge, Dawn Godsall; she is a true dog woman who obviously knows and loves her breed. We easily came to our decisions. Sitting and watching the six trophy rounds, I felt compelled to mention the Bull Terrier temperaments. I found both the dogs and bitches to be keen, alert, and in sync with their handlers. We even had a dog escape from the grooming area, who ran free through the show ring. There were no harsh words from the Bull Terrier exhibits, and the escapee was quickly recaptured and returned to the handler. Well done, everyone!

First of all I’d like thank the committee who invited me to judge this well run show, congratulations to the committee also thanks to Jo my co- judge for the Sandawana trophy .
Winner – Ch Aricon Eye Roller.
Substantial brindle boy with nice round bone and beautiful tight feet. Large well filled head, correct mouth and well placed ears. Good depth through brisket Moved with drive and covered the ground well, a little loose at times when moving hence the dip in top line.
Best opposite sex – Bluepoint Blackbird at Koellen
Feminine tricolour bitch. Well shaped and filled head and correct mouth. Long neck onto well placed shoulders and full chest. Good angulation throughout and moved and handled well.
Judges Critique – Jo Phillips (Bullyon)
I would like to thank The Bull Terrier Club for inviting me to judge this prestigious Trophy and for their hospitality over the weekend. The Show Hall looked amazing with all the new signs and posters with the new Bull Terrier Club logo on. It was lovely to judge the Sandawana Trophy with my co judge Angela Goodwin. After discussion we were in full agreement with our choices for Winner & Best Opposite Sex.
Winner Stanley’s Ch Aricon Eye Roller.
Extreme powerhouse bull type masculine brindle & white dog with incredible bone. Superb powerpacked head with super profile. Wicked eye and good mouth. Good earset but prefer him to use them more. Shapely forechest and straight front with neat feet. Lovely hind angulation and powerful quarters which he really drove from on the move. Powered down the ring on the move, driving from behind, moving fairly parallel and covering the ground with ease. Sorry to use the word POWER so often in this critique but how could you not. Presented in immaculate condition. He was the Best Mover in The Sandawana Trophy and the only animal my co judge and I put forward for The Charlie Girl Cup for movement.
Best Opposite Sex O’Connell’s Bluepoint Blackbird At Koellen.
Super showy typy tri colour bitch. A real beauty, surprised she wasn’t in the Bitch Jug. Lovely turned and filled head with neat well placed ears and wicked eye. Good mouth. Lovely reach of neck into shapely forechest. Straight front with cat feet. Very shapely and balanced throughout with well angulated hindquarters. Tended to pace on the move but could see when she wasn’t pacing that her movement was fairly parallel and she covered the ground. Super showgirl. Although I preferred her reach of neck and balance to Ch Aricon Eye Roller, she had pinkish feet and tended to pace on the move. His extreme power, presentation and movement were exceptional and so my co judge & I were delighted to award him Winner and her Best Opposite Sex.
The Charlie Girl Cup
Winner – Bluepoint Sparrow Hawk

I would like to thank the Bull Terrier Club for inviting me to judge the International Trophy, it was a honour & privilege to judge at such a prestigious Trophy Show and an appointment I will always treasure.
It was a pleasure to judge with my co judge Carlos Rojas, although the challenge of a slight language barrier at times, there was certainly no confusion on our clear winners.
The quality of the line up of both dogs and bitches were of the highest quality and it was a pleasure to go over them. We selected 3 dogs and 3 bitches from those present for our final lineup.
however my co-judge and I were in complete agreement with the winners:
Winner: HILDEGARD VOM WELPERSBERG
White upstanding, 3.5 year old bitch. She oozes ring presence and caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Ultra feminine bitch with sweeping profile and keen expression, ears right on top. Straight front with cat-like feet, well laid shoulder, with a good reach of neck and good forechest. Slight rise over the loin with correct tail set. Good balance in forequarters and hind quarters. She Held her top line on the move & moved parallel with ease both ways. Top show girl always on her toes, showed and presented beautifully at all times by her handler. Proud to present her winner of the international Trophy.

2 year old white substantial bitch with a power pact head, excellent expression and strong under-jaw, well muscled neck leading into a correct tail set. Correct upper arm, good round bone, although a little heavy in-front , well angulated forequarter and hind quarters.
Moved well going, would prefer better coming.
Although different type to winner, both quality bitches and decision come down to movement. Handler gets the best out of her and handled very well. When stood she completes a super picture
